Rough Sunday

We almost burned down our house after a failed attempt at a late night mac & cheese session... Good thing the smoke coming from the burning Tinkyada woke us up! I'm almost more pissed that I wasted some of my precious Tinkyada than the fact that our home STINKS. Any suggestions on how to get the smell to go away?? I've been washing everything and all windows are open despite the cold.

And to top it off, I decided to make some Cheddar Corn Chowder. Ran to the store to pick up a few things... began making it - and realized after I was almost done, that I had put in Chicken Stock that wasn't gluten free!!!! I was so pissed. I ate a small bowl anyway, and I feel OK actually. But still, pissed. Why on earth isn't all chicken stock gluten free???

Do you have carpets in your house? They absorb smells. I think can sprinkling baking powder or borax all over the carpets, leave it for a few hours, then vacuum it up. That is supposed to help.

I think you would be better off with borax actually, baking powder is abrasive and might wreck the vacuum.

Hey Wheat Free --

Thanks for the advice! I had actually forgotten about this incident! Thankfully, after about 2 weeks, the gross smell went away. I don't have carpets (dust allergy) - but I did end up washing every inch of floor, and all of the walls, kept the windows open, burned a lot of candles, etc. & it was gone.

Thanks again.... Allie

It's funny how you come across blogs, and then forget that some of the entries might have been written months or years ago!

Two weeks is a long time for a smell to disappear - that was one powerful smell!

I know! I've commented on blog-posts that are a year old!

And yes, two weeks was a very long time. We were quite irritable - and I almost forgot, we got our Christmas tree early, and it smelled wonderful and really eliminated any remnants of bad smell.
